Yin Yoga : Is a slow paced style of Yoga, with it’s origins in Traditional Chinese Medicine, where the poses are held for several minutes. unlike Yang Yoga which targets the muscles, this practice targets the deep connective tissues between the muscles and the fascia throughout the body, which aims to increase circulation and improves the synovial fluid around the joints leading to improved flexibility. The long held poses, help the flow of Chi/ prana, life force energy, nutrients and fluids, to flow freely, unblocking any stagnant energy residing in the body which if left can cause health issues.
Yin Yoga’s more slower and meditative style with the addition of deeper breathing allows the student the opportunity and space to turn inwards with mindful awareness to focus on the sensations in the physical body and to observe the thoughts that arise.
Props such as blankets, bolsters / cushions/ pillows and yoga blocks/ books can be used to feel fully supported throughout a pose.
