Yoga is an ancient practice, dating back approximately 5000 years. Yoga seeks to unite the physical body with the emotional, psychological and spiritual aspects within each of us, it is a science and an art which has been proven to have a profound positive effect on our physical and mental health.
Yoga practice focuses on, pranayama breathing and poses known as asanas followed with meditation. This combination works to improve balance, posture and concentration, as well as calming the nervous system, leading to an overall sense of wellbeing. Other health benefits include increased flexibility, strengthening of muscles, supporting of joints and connective tissues and reduction in anxiety and stress.
Far from being just an exercise system, yoga helps us to connect to our higher selves our true nature.
My classes are suitable for those of you who are searching for a yoga practice that embodies so much more than just the physical aspect of yoga, asanas (poses). My classes will empower you, mentally, spiritually and emotionally through all stages and struggles in your life.
Together we will cultivate a deeply mindful and spiritual yoga practice that will support you in navigating your life from a place of peace, balance and awareness. Whether you’re a complete beginner or have been practicing yoga regularly for some time.
I blend the knowledge from several different teachings into my classes, planned around a weekly theme, which acts as a positive intention for the class and helps to focus the practice.
A typical class might include breathing practices, layering in Mudras (a hand gesture to seal in intention) Mantras ( a repeated sound to help focus for meditation) a number of slow flowing or restorative poses to expand and strengthen the mind and the body, followed by the opportunity for reflection and growth through a guided meditation.
I aim to hold a safe space, where the students feel nurtured and supported.
If you’re suffering from an injury or ongoing health issue, I will offer a modified version of the pose, in order to make the class as accessible as possible and if your a seasoned yogi you will feel empowered to express yourself to your full potential.
I recommend wearing comfortable clothes that are easy to move in, grippy socks or bare feet. You can bring your own mat if you have one, as well as a water bottle and a warm layer for the meditation. You may also bring a towel or blanket if you wish.
All other equipment is provided.
